Edison Chen once declared that he would retire from showbiz, but ended up making his comeback not too long after that announcement.

The 30-year-old Canadian-Chinese singer, whose sex scandal implicated a number of notable female stars, has started his fashion business and is releasing a new album.

In a media report, he said that he has to first forgive himself, then seek forgiveness from society and lastly from Nicholas Tse and his wife Cecilia Cheung.

Tse was Edison's best friend and Cheung was one of the women involved the sex scandal two years ago.

Chen said that he will "react naturally... talk to them [and that he] won't avoid them" if he met Tse and Cheung again.

On whether Gillian Chung, another artiste whose reputation was severely damaged by the scandal, would consider him a friend, Chen did not give a straight answer but merely said that "the incident took place years ago, we've grown up. Hope everyone can forget the past!"

He called his girlfriend Vincy of four years a "superwoman" and thanked her for her support "in many things". However, he has no plans to get married in the near future: "I have so many things to do. It's more important to be happy everyday."

It has been over more than a year since the Edison photo scandal sent shockwaves. Following the return of actresses Gillian Cheung and Cecilia Cheung, Edison Chen is staging his own comeback as well.

The 29-year-old performed John Lennon’s Imagine to great response at Hong Kong rapper duo Fama’s recent concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum.

In an interview that followed, Chen, who was one of Hong Kong’s most sought-after actors before the scandal, announced his plan to return to the music scene, latest by October.

He revealed that he is launching an album before October and it will be a channel for him to share his thoughts with his fans.

The bulk of the material will be in Mandarin with the rest being Cantonese numbers, said Chen.

While he is responsible for penning the Cantonese lyrics, he plans to seek help from Taiwanese rapper MC HotDog to churn out the Mandarin lyrics.

“He will help me to translate the original English lyrics to Mandarin," he said.

“I have to write my own lyrics for this album, because I have a lot to say to my fans and I don’t want it to be misinterpreted.”

During his disappearance from the limelight, Chen said he had offers of live performances but he had turned them down because he did not want to perform his previous hits.

On his acting career, he said, “I’m not ready yet to take on any film roles, but it’s important to gain support from the people first."

“I have been staying in the US these few years. The Americans have a whole set of different value system compared to the people in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong people are always after the goals set by the people around them. They should just chill and go for what they really want," he said.

"I’m not asking everyone to accept me. I can only know whether they do when I launch the album."

Two years after his public announcement to "step away indefinitely" from the Hong Kong entertainment industry due to a sex photo scandal, Edison Chen has broken his silence, speaking exclusively with the Global Times about his plans to return to the showbiz world in full force. Chen also made his first public appearance in Beijing since the scandal, attending the launch last Tuesday of Adidas Originals' new line A039.

"With now as the best timing and me in my best state, I am ready for my come back," Chen said.

According to Chen, he will start recording a new album by the end of the month, with hopes that the first single will be released in time for summer. Taiwanese musicians including rapper MC Hot Dog and possibly Jay Chou, will contribute to the album, according to Chen, differing from his previous hip-hop-styled releases.

"The album is to reflect my thoughts and feelings over the past two years," Chen said. Despite confessing that music is not his true passion, he explained that he would continue to release albums because music is one of the few ways in which he can truly express himself.

"There were times that things I said in interviews were misquoted or misinterpreted by reporters or the public," Chen commented cautiously, adding that he can only deliver what he really wants to say to his fans and the world correctly and faithfully with the lyrics he writes.

He added that he will write most of the lyrics on the new album, but only in English and then his assistants will translate them into Chinese.

Chen also revealed that his new film would start shooting before the end of this year, which he will both star in and produce. The production will be his first attempt at producing and therefore "a huge challenge." He said that he has been talking with many directors and has decided to make a low-budget film.

"Of course I want to make big-budget blockbusters, but I am too young and inexperienced for that," Chen added thoughtfully, "I think I'd better start with small-scale ones and move on to bigger productions later."

Though declining to answer questions directly related to the sex photo scandal, Chen admitted that he is different from two years ago, before the infamous incident took place and almost ruined his otherwise successful career.

"I feel older and more mature," said the 29-year-old Chen, who used to be known for his bad-boy charm. He compared his change to the new line of Adidas A039 sportswear that was being launched, which has added more design elements to its previous pure sportswear collections.

"Two or three years ago, I was like the old line which focuses on one direction and is more obvious. I wish for the new me to be more sophisticated and mature."

Edison Chen is a Hong Kong-based Chinese-Canadian actor, singer and fashion icon. He is also the founder of fashion brand CLOT. In early 2008, intimate and private photographs of Chen with various women including actresses Cecilia Cheung and Gillian Chung were illegally distributed over the Internet. HONG KONG - CANTOPOP duo Twins will stage their comeback concert in April, two years after member Gillian Chung took a hiatus following her involvement in the Edison Chen sex photo scandal.

In its latest issue, Ming Pao Weekly said Chung and bandmate Charlene Choi are also preparing a new record in addition to the Hong Kong Coliseum concert.

The reunion comes after Choi was forced to go it alone in her career in the last two years, during which rumours of Twins disbanding were rampant.

In comments carried by websites including Netease, the two alluded to the scandal that saw racy pictures of stars, including Chung and Cecilia Cheung, having sex with Chen leaked on the Internet.

Choi said the concert, which will mark the 10th anniversary of her friendship with Chung, was actually planned for 2008. 'Things happened and it was delayed. It'll be a waste not to stage it,' she said.

The concert will have 'bouncing back' as a theme, it was reported.

Said Chung: 'Life poses many different tests. I now take things easy. I no longer think about unhappy stuff. We want to show that you can stand up during adversity and bounce back even further than before.'

Finally Hong Kong Cantopop girl group Twins are back together.

They will step into the Hong Kong Coliseum for a comeback concert this April after two years hiatus since 2007 in the wake of member Gillian Chung's (also known as Ah Jiao) involvement in a nude photo scandal.

This year also marks the Twins' 10th anniversary. Their upcoming concert will center on a "bouncing back" theme and posters of it are shot with a rock-and-roll flair.

Through our actions, we hope to prove that humans are not only capable of rising from their downfalls, but are able to bounce back even higher than before."

The scandal saw racy photos of celebrities including Chung and actress Cecilia Cheung engaging in sexual activities with Hong Kong actor Edison Chen leaked onto the Internet in 2008.

This prompted Chung to go on hiatus and Chen to announce in a video message that he was "stepping away indefinitely" from showbiz.

Chung's partner Charlene Choi had no choice but to go solo when Chung announced she was taking a break two years ago, amidst rumours that Twins was breaking up.

Choi told reporters at a prize presentation ceremony on Saturday night that she was looking forward to their reunion concert.

"This concert is actually the one that was cancelled two years ago; I'm looking forward to it. It is especially significant since it will mark the 10th anniversary of Twins. I hope it will be a wild concert. We have already recorded the theme song and a slow song for the concert," said Choi.

The duo is also reportedly preparing to release a new album with "bouncing back" as the theme and have shot the promotional poster for it.

THIS might not sound like the weepy Gillian Chung whose sexcapade with fellow Hong Kong actor Edison Chen became an international sensation last year: the doll-like actress exudes new-found confidence, maturity and charm when The Daily Chilli, a new online tabloid for The Star group, meets her for an exclusive in Johor Baru, Johor. Throw in a bottle of her favourite Jaz Beer into the conversation and you have a loosened up Chung (I mean it as high praise).

“Not every guy is bad (like Edison),” says Chung who opens up a little about her public humiliation. “I have never given up on love (and men). And I’m not afraid to love again.”

Depression, that is so yesterday. The 28-year-old is much happier and friendlier in person these days – at one point she chats giddily about her admiration for her male personal assistant. “He’s a nice guy. Too bad he’s married.”

But what about Chen, you ask? Forget about her accepting his public apology. (He has even said that he would like to say “hi” to her if they ever cross paths again.)
Confident: ‘I have never given up on love (and men). And I’m not afraid to love again,’ says Gillian Chung.

Judging from the way her personal assistant refers to Chen as “the one whose name should not be mentioned”, Chung has not buried the hatchet.

Also in the pipeline is her new EP, slated for release soon. “I’m taking up dancing because of that. I hope to do stage shows again in March.”

Next is her top secret new TV drama in China. “Yes, I’ve been busy and I am feeling tired. I haven’t slept well in three days because of my work. But I am happy.”

On the contrary, the hardworking lass says she has never wanted to call it quits at the height of her personal tragedy as reported.

“I’ve never really left the entertainment industry,” she explains. “I just took a long break. I did what I had wanted to do; I learned what I had wanted to learn and filled my time with a lot of charity work, which made me personally fulfilled.”

The dark and trying times have also taught her to live by a simple rule: Go to work, then go home to her family and close friends.

“I’ve decided to do what I like and love the people around me who love me. That way, I don’t have any regrets.”

Seriously, this tough cookie has no regrets about the scandal that almost destroyed her burgeoning career.

“You can’t play grown-up all the time,” Chung reasons. “You never know what will happen in your life. You don’t know for sure whether you’ll regret doing certain things or making certain decisions in your life.”

So, has she completely buried her dark past with Chen? Not quite, because he remains the one whose name should not be mentioned. She doesn’t even want to acknowledge his public apology. “You can ask her indirectly about him, but do not utter the name ‘Edison’. She’ll get upset,” cautions an insider.

The scandal-king of Asia, Edison Chen, is back in business. Slowly but surely, this talented young man is making his way back to showbusiness, and returning to his usual cheeky and talkative self.

HE HAS been hissed at, ridiculed, and even subjected to a public witch hunt. But you have to admit that the mere mention of Edison Chen still sends people into a tizzy.

Everybody wants to hear from the man who was once in the centre of the biggest sex scandal in Hong Kong. Chen, 29, was involved in a massively- publicised sex scandal in January 2008, when nude photographs of himself taken four years ago engaging in sexual acts with female celebrities - including Gillian Chung, Bobo Chan and Cecilia Cheung - were circulated on the Internet.

As a result, he was forced to issue a public apology and announce his temporary retirement from the Hong Kong entertainment industry.Now, for the first time since he gave an interview with TalkAsia on CNN in June last year, the Hong Kong-based Chinese Canadian entertainer shares his thoughts about the scandal and how he has moved on from it.

In his previous interviews, Chen looked positively downtrodden.

This time, appearing in the second season premiere of Pan-Asian variety chat show, Asia Uncut, with American- born host Jon Niermann, Chen is his spunky old self (proving, perhaps, that a little old scandal can't keep a player down).

Chen, dressed in a spunky checkered jacket paired with dark-purple pants, lounges casually against the orange arm chair. He is a picture of ease as he chats with Niermann candidly about his life and the issue that everyone wants to know about.

He divulges his confusion about being mired in the mess.

"A lot of people said I was doing things wrong... (but) I can't really tell if I am a villain or the victim. In my world, I'm just Edison Chen," he says.

He then grows reflective: "I just tried to live with myself and I think I have gotten past that. I learnt a lot of things. Everything happens for a reason. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

At the end, you won't know whether to be incensed all over again by his statements, or whether to wonder about what celebrity can do to someone.

But you do know that Chen is undeniably back.

The show - taped in Shanghai in front of a live studio audience - will also see guests such as Ed Norton, Jackie Chan and Lee Byung Hun in the following weeks.

Thankfully, it is not as excruciating to watch as the first season.

The cheesy Chinese-styled chairs have been swopped for comfy sofas, and Niermann comes off as a more credible and serious talkshow host.

Previously, he tried a tad bit too hard to dish out gags (most of which played on Asian versus Western stereotypes), which unfortunately fell flat.

But if this episode is anything to go by, this is a triumphant return to the airwaves.

In excerpts of an interview with GQ magazine carried on China's Nanfang Daily website on Tuesday, the actor said although he had apologised for the scandal at the time, 'I still don't understand why I was the bad guy'.

The Canadian-born Chen said thanks to his girlfriend Vincy Yeung, he mustered up the courage to fly back to Hong Kong, face the media and apologise so 'things could calm down'.

Hong Kong, March 12 (DPA) A bullet and a warning letter aimed at the Hong Kong pop star at the centre of a sex photos scandal has been sent in the post from the US to a local TV station, the police said Thursday.

The letter, written in English, warned singer-actor Edison Chen to disappear from public life and said it was a final warning to him to take his personal safety seriously.

Chen, 28, was embroiled in a scandal last year when photographs of him romping naked with a number of young starlets were circulated over the Internet.

The explicit photographs were apparently downloaded from his laptop when he took it in for repairs, and a number of people were arrested for allegedly stealing and distributing the images.

The anonymous letter containing a bullet arrived at Hong Kong’s Cable TV network from the US Wednesday afternoon, said the police, who took away the bullet and letter for examination.

Chen stayed out of the public eye after the scandal broke in February last year, but appeared in court in Vancouver last month to testify in the trial of a computer technician accused over the photo scandal.

The singer-actor has said he will not return to Hong Kong for the court proceedings because he fears for his personal safety and will testify only by video-link.

Victims of the photo scandal, including pop singer Cecilia Cheung, have in recent weeks given TV interviews hitting out at Chen, accusing him of lying and failing to apologise for his actions.

Millions of people viewed the photographs after they were uploaded onto websites at the end of January 2008, causing massive embarrassment and ending the careers of some of the starlets involved.

After the scandal, Gillian's first interview with a mainland media - "Behind the Story," has been moved back several times, causing unhappiness among many audiences. HONG KONG: While Hong Kong stars Cecilia Cheung and Gillian Chung have publicly shared their side of the story in the Edison Chen sex photo scandal, one starlet who has been identified as one of the women in the pictures has chosen to remain silent.

Former actress Bobo Chan has remained in seclusion since the scandal erupted in January 2008. Not only was her career ruined, her life was also left in tatters - her engagement to stock marketer Philip Jin was cancelled shortly after the explicit photos flooded the Internet.

Like the other celebs caught in the scandal, Chan worked hard to get her life back on track and with the support of her boyfriend, the 30-year-old opened a nail salon in the city on Tuesday.

Even on the opening day, Chan chose to stay out of the limelight and was a no show. The event was extremely kept low key - there was no ribbon cutting ceremony nor flower baskets in sight.

A reporter's request to take photos of the salon was rejected as well.

HONG KONG: The computer technician convicted of stealing sexually explicit photos of Canto pop star Edison Chen Koon-hei was sentenced to eight and a half months in jail Wednesday.

His defence counsel declared he would file an appeal.

The Kowloon City Magistrate Court found Dicky Sze Ho-chun, 24, guilty of dishonestly obtaining access to the intimate photos of Chen engaged in sex acts with female celebrities, including Gillian Chung, Cecilia Cheung and Bobo Chan.

He was accused of stealing the pictures while Chen's computer was being repaired at Elite Multimedia Limited, where Sze was an employee.

Sze showed the photos to two female staff at a household store and burnt a compact disc containing 1,300 sex images for one of them.

Sze was found guilty on all three counts.

Pleading for leniency before Chief Magistrate Tong Man, defence counsel Kevin Tang said Sze was only 21 when he committed the crime and was ignorant of the law.

"The defendant had no malicious intention in showing the nude images to others. He was an innocent boy willing to share his experience with people who asked him to do so. He regrets what he did," Tang said, adding Sze accepts responsibility for the incident.

Sze and his family came under tremendous pressure after he was arrested in early 2008, Tang continued.

To avoid public disdain and being hounded by media, Sze hid himself at home for a year.

Sze's parents and sister described the ordeal as "life in jail".

Sze also worried about the safety of his family.

Tang said Sze felt remorse and guilt over bringing difficulties to his family.

However, Magistrate Tong ruled out suspending the sentence owing to the seriousness of the crime.

"Though the defendant realized no monetary gain, he gravely invaded the privacy of others and breached the trust of his employer," he said.

Although there was no evidence to prove Sze was responsible for touching off the high-profile scandal by distributing the photos on the Internet, he did expose private information of others in an extremely dangerous situation, he added.

The magistrate refused to grant bail pending appeal and ordered that Sze be jailed immediately.

Chief Inspector of Police Kenny Wong Tak-cheung said the judgment served as a warning to the public that it is a serious offense to use a computer dishonestly.

"Hong Kong Police is determined and capable of combating technological crimes," he added, reminding Internet users to be cautious about their behavior.

A computer worker has been convicted of copying and distributing 1,300 photos of Hong Kong film star Edison Chen having sex with famous women.

Sze Ho-chun, 24, is expected to be sentenced in two weeks at Kowloon City Court and remains in custody. The pictures were copied from Mr Chen's laptop at the repair shop where Sze worked and posted on the internet. The 27-year-old actor has admitted taking the photographs and apologised for "all the suffering". The scandal over the photos - which showed Chen with stars including actress Cecilia Cheung, former actress Bobo Chan and pop star Gillian Chung - gripped China, where pornography is officially banned.

Sze Ho-chun was convicted on three charges of obtaining access to a computer with a view to making dishonest gain between 1 and 8 June, 2006. Prosecutors said that, some time after those dates, he showed some of the images to two female customers before giving a CD containing all 1,300 images to one of them. The pictures eventually surfaced on the internet in February 2008.

Speaking at the time, Canadian-born actor and hip-hop star Chen told a news conference he was "deeply saddened" and wanted to "apologise to all the people for all the suffering that has been caused". He said he would be stepping down "indefinitely" from his showbusiness career. Recently, the 28-year-old star, who fled to Canada after the pictures emerged, appeared at a Singapore press conference to promote his new film, The Sniper. He appeared despite reported death threats warning him to stay out of the public eye. According to the AFP news agency, he said: "I'm a little afraid but I have to do what needs to be done so I hope everyone will welcome me and watch my movie."

Mr Chen appeared in the Infernal Affairs trilogy, which was later made into the Hollywood film The Departed.
